Dog Days of Denton Celebration adds Friday evening hours to the festivities
This year dogs and their best friends can enjoy “yappy” hour at the Dog Days of Denton Celebration on Friday, May 29 as the festival extends its hours to include some evening shade. “This is the first year to have evening hours on a Friday and we hope it will add another option for attendees to visit the festival,” said Christine Gossett, co-director for the Dog Days of Denton Celebration. Festival hours this year are Friday, May 29th, 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday, May 30th, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The celebration features the same traditional fun both Friday night and Saturday, with some activities and contests featured on Saturday only. Attendees can take in live music, “dancing with the dogs” performances by T.C. Cappel, and demos and tips from professional dog trainer Melissa Heeter at the Purina Pro Plan Rally to Rescue exhibit. The Glamfur photos, arts/crafts booths, pet care information and adoptions, the “Heinz 57” contests, festival foods and more will also be featured on both Friday night and Saturday. (Check the schedule on the website for any updates or changes to the contest and entertainment schedule).
Saturday’s schedule includes the Pet Tricks, Dog Singing, and “Heinz 57” contests between the hours of 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., as well as the popular Spokesdog Pageant which will be held around the noon hour. Attendees can also try their dog’s skills on the agility course until noon with donations going to the Denton Animal Shelter Foundation fund. For spokesdog pageant guidelines, contest and entertainment schedule updates, please visit the website www.dogdaysdenton.com.
Dog Days of Denton is proud to have the Pro Plan Rally to Rescue “Rally Across America” tour at this year’s festival. The tour is dedicated to finding homes for animals in need and includes a professional dog trainer providing tips and pet personality information and more on Friday night and Saturday. On Saturday several pet rescue organizations from the Dallas/Fort Worth area will be in attendance to talk to pet lovers about all the ways they can help with this year’s goal of 300,000 adoptions nationwide by the end of 2009 (building upon 227,000 successful adoptions to date).
The Dog Days of Denton Celebration will be held in the north end of Quakertown Park at 321 E. McKinney Street in downtown Denton. The Dog Days of Denton Celebration offers free general admission. For more information on the event please visit www.dogdaysdenton.com.
