We are proud to welcome Sid Korpi, author of Good Grief: Finding Peace After Pet Loss, to our network of dog friendly companies and rescue organizations.
Good Grief serves as a path to validation for those who have
lost a companion animal. The loss of such a friend is not always
legitimized as it is with a human death, although the pain is as real
and as devastating.
Sid Korpi understands this. She notes, "Unfortunately, our society
on the whole discounts (this) grief as frivolous since they've 'merely
lost an animal.' People often report that they got over the death of a
fellow human being easier than they did that of their pet simply
because they were given permission to really grieve over the human and
thus found the support they needed to process those feelings. This same
support is often sorely lacking when the intense feelings of sorrow are
a result of pet loss."
With Good Grief, Sid is hoping to reverse that mentality. In the
book, she shares her personal insights along with those of
professionals in relevant fields such as veterinary medicine, animal
communication and religion. Through this book, Sid strives to reassure
grieving individuals that they are not alone, and that it is okay to
grieve for an animal as one would for a human.
Good Grief is available online through Sid's website. She also holds book signings, pet loss classes and other appearances around the Minneapolis and surrounding areas.
In addition, Sid notes that $2 of the purchase price of each copy of Good Grief
is donated to one of following animal rescue organizations: Pet Haven,
Animal Ark, The Wildcat Sanctuary, Feline Rescue, or Small Dog Rescue
of Minnesota. Read more about Sid Korpi and Good Grief, or order a copy of Good Grief: Finding Peace after Pet Loss.
