Operation Blankets of Love Collects, Distributes Blankets and Other Goods for Homeless Shelter Animals - You Can Help

Dear Animal Lover,  Thanksgiving is a time for us to count our blessings and celebrate with friends and family.  For many of us, our pets are  family.  But thousands of dogs and cats in shelters have no family--dogs and cats that will spend the holidays in a cage...or worse.  You can change that. Operation Blankets of Love provides comfort items to lost, abused, sick and abandoned animals in shelters in ten Southern California counties. We collect and donate blankets, towels, pet beds, and other needed supplies to shelters, rescue groups, sanctuaries, and foster homes. In a little over one year, we collected more than 100,500 items. How can a blanket save a life? Which animal would you adopt? The anxious, agitated or terrified animal shaking or pacing in their cage or the calm, relaxed animal snuggled on a soft, warm blanket? Studies show that potential adopters choose a relaxed animal in the home-like setting. I have seen the difference the addition a blanket makes. I have placed blankets and pet beds into cages and was amazed at the transformation of these frightened animals. Dogs and cats huddled, shaking in their cages quickly snuggled and curled up in the blankets. What happens to animals that aren't adopted? After a set number of days they are euthanized. A blanket could mean the difference between life and death for a homeless dog or cat. Your contribution to Operation Blankets of Love will help us continue our vital work.   We aid more than 250 rescue groups. Since the average shelter cares for 350-400 animals (some up to 800 a week) and comfort items are a necessity 365 days a year, the need is tremendous. In order to aid over 100,000 animals a year, we collect a lot of blankets and other comfort items. There are 35 drop-off locations around Southern California. We travel more than 500 miles each week collecting and delivering donations to shelters, visiting schools where we teach pet responsibility classes, and attending pet adoption events. Our annual transportation budget alone is $20,000. In addition, Operation Blankets of Love is an Emergency Response Team, and partners with organizations to provide relief and comfort to animals displaced or endangered by catastrophe.
